6회 – 취미소개 1 (스포츠)

열랑 : Hi everyone- Welcome to OPIc Hi! 여러분, 안녕하세요- 오픽하이의 진행자 둥가둥가 김열랑 입니다. 날이 갈수록 opic hi 에 대한 사랑이 뜨거워지고 있는 것 같아 아주 기분이 좋은데요, 여러분이 그 프로그램을 열심히 듣고 영어공부를 열심히 한다는 뜻도 될 것 같아요-

희성 : 네, 저도 처음엔 많이 부족했는데 OPIc hi를 통해서 영어 실력이 정말 향상된 것 같아요.

지아 : That’s great to hear. I’m gonna have to see if you really mean that.

So, let’s go right ahead and review our previous lesson.

열랑 : 저번 시간에는 친구를 소개하는 방법을 알아봤는데요, 희성씨 어떤 내용이 생각나세요?

희성 : 저번시간 복습 할 땐, 제가 좀 버벅거렸는데 집에가서 열심히 연습을 했어요. 한번 들어보세요- 맨 처음 시작할 때는,

Let me tell you about my friend 성해,

People say he looks like the movie star ________

He has a very small head so we call him 멸치대가리. (anchovy head)

그리고 “그는 나 만큼 키가 크다”라고 표현하고 싶을 땐,

He is as tall as I am. 이라는 표현을 했던것도 기억이 나요.

열랑 : 아, 맞다 멸치대가리 ㅋㅋ 영어로는 anchovy head 라고 했던 것도 기억이 나요.

저도 생각나는 표현이 있어요. 자기소개를 할 때와 마찬가지로,

I’d like to introduce my friend 민정. 

몇 년을 알아 왔어~ 라는 표헌은 I’ve known her since middle school. 혹은,

We have been best friends for _10__years.. 라고 말한다고 배웠죠-

지아 : Great job. Two thumbs up for both of you! 

It’s a joy to see such improvements made in a short period of time. 

Well, this week…I want to know about your HOBBIES!

열랑 : 취미를 말해보라고 막상 질문을 받으면, 독서-영화-음악 말고는 딱히 떠오르는게 없더라구요… OPIc 시험에 도움되는 이야깃거리를 만들기 위해서라도, 좀 더 세련된 취미생활을 하나 만들어야 할 것 같아요. 희성씨는 취미가 뭐에요?

희성 : 저야 두 말 할 것도 없이 “스포츠”죠! 하하하- 제 빛나는 근육들은 모두다 오랜 스포츠 활동의 결과라고 할 수 있죠-

열랑 : 근…육? 아~~스포츠 저번 달부터 시작하셨나봐요…. 근육이 새끼 감자처럼 아주 귀엽네요 ㅋㅋㅋ 많이 자라야겠다.

지아 :

Ah~~~what a shame.

Today, we’ll learn a few phrases related to SPORTS.

Even if you’re not a big sports fan, it’s worth knowing these expressions. 

열랑, what do you think?

열랑 : 아, 저도 스포츠는 별로 안좋아하지만… 다양하게 말하는게 중요하니까, 말 할 내용을 한 번 생각해 봐야겠네요. 선생님 그럼 질문 주세요!

지아 : :

Okay, today’s question is…

Q: What is your hobby?

What do you like to do during your free time?

What are some activities that interest you? 

열랑 : 네, 평소 여가시간을 어떻게 보내냐, 가장 흥미있는 취미가 뭐냐 라는 질문이었는데요, 오늘은 스포츠에 관한 내용이니까, “한달 스포츠맨” 희성오빠 먼저 대답을 해 볼까요?

좋아하는 주제라 그런지 꽤 자신있어 보여요!

희성 : 공부 한다니까요 요즘..!!

지아 :  Okay, I want to ask 희성 a more specific question since he’s already shared with us that his hobby is sports!

Q: You have stated that you love all kinds of sports including baseball.

Why do you like playing baseball?

What other games do you like to play?

희성:    I love baseball because  I think a lot when I watch the game.

Me, and my friends gather and play baseball during weekend.

My favorite team is LG Twins and they do well game, so I like them.

I also play online games(cyber games).

The game I like is _starcraft

지아 :

Wow Starcraft! They recently released Starcraft 3 right?

희성: 아…yes. Startcraft 3.

지아: Okay, before we move on, I want to make a few corrections.

I love baseball because it’s a strategy game that makes me think a lot.

Like I said before, my favorite team is LG Twins and they have been doing well so far so I am looking forward to their performance this season.

Other than baseball, I also play online games(cyber games).

The game I enjoy playing the most is Starcraft.

열랑 : 오, 많은 표현들이 나왔네요. “예전에 내가 말 했듯이~”라는 표현은, like I said before이라고 하고, “~이 기대가 된다”는 표현은 I’m looking forward to 라는 표현을 쓰는군요. 네 그럼 이번엔 제가 한 번 말해볼게요. 실수가 많을 까봐 항상 떨리는 시간이에요

 I like basketball.  I like watching a basketball game but I’m not good at playing it.

I want to say, the sport I like watching the most is soccer.

In 2002 World Cup, I was crazy about soccer like all Koreans did. I was really excited when we win against Italy so dramatically and I couldn’t believe that we went to the finals. I’ll never forget the memories that all citizens gathered in big square and cheered them up. I also think that watching sport game is really good for couples. It helps breaking the ice so you can get along with him more easily. 

지아 : Fabulous!  열랑, you even know the phrase, breaking the ice!

Okay, let’s start from the beginning of your sentence…

To make it flow better, people who aren’t great athletes often say,

I like watching a basketball game rather than playing it myself.

But I would have to say, the sport I like watching the most is soccer.

All Koreans did -> all Koreans were crazy…

Since we’re talking about the past, instead of win -> won

I believe the Korean national team entered semi-finals.

Watching a sports game. 

You can simply say, It’s a great ice breaker.

Alright, now that I’ve pointed out your mistakes,

let’s review before we forget.

열랑 : 평소에 스포츠 안 좋아한다고 관심을 안 뒀더니, 이렇게 갑자기 질문을 받으니까 많이 당황스럽네요. 역시~ OPIc의 관건은 영어 표현을 외우는 것도 중요하지만, 평소에 말할 내용을 얼마나 생각해두냐 인 것 같아요-

희성 : 저는 스포츠에 대해선 할말이 참~~ 많은데 ㅋㅋ

열랑 : 안 그런 사람들도 많잖아요… 흠, 안되겠어요. 취미에 대해 다음주에도 좀 더 자세히 배우고 싶어요. 이제는 여자들이 좋아하는 거요!

지아 : I was thinking the same thing just now!  Okay, then let’s share something that most women enjoy next week…What would that be.  How about shopping!  What’s new, what’s in, what’s hot?
